From a single student residence near the University of Pretoria to a group of five businesses, led today by Hansie Prinsloo’s children.
Our story
JJP Group of Companies was founded by Hansie Prinsloo, an engineer with an MBA. His first student accommodation went up near the University of Pretoria in 1994, and the Group has worked the same way ever since: find the site, build it, and stay to run it. It has built more than 10,000 student beds since then, for several developers.
That became Varsity Lodges, which today houses students of Tshwane University of Technology, the University of Pretoria, the University of Johannesburg and Rhodes University.
Around it, the Group built the businesses that serve it. AAA Invest invests. Pro Africa Construction builds. Varsity Lodges owns. MyStudent manages. And the Group’s own developers write the software that runs it all, through HiveCo.
Hansie’s children now lead the Group: Coenraad Prinsloo is CEO and owns MyStudent, and Monali Prinsloo manages AAA Invest.

Hansie founded JJP Group more than three decades ago, building his first student residence near the University of Pretoria. An engineer by training and a self-made entrepreneur, he grew one building into a group of companies.
He remains the Group’s chairman.

Hansie’s son, Coenraad, has taken over from his father as CEO of JJP Group. He owns MyStudent, which manages all of the Group’s student accommodation, and leads its focus on IT development and custom software.
